E-max Crowns & Veneers

E-max is a metal-free glass-ceramic material known as lithium disilicate. Its high light transmission gives an appearance very close to natural tooth enamel, making it a popular choice in cosmetic dentistry. The same material is used for two different applications: the E-max crown, which covers the whole tooth, and the E-max veneer, which is applied to the front surface only.

What is E-max?

E-max is a high-strength glass-ceramic used in dentistry. It has no metal substructure, so light passes through the material as it does through a natural tooth, avoiding an opaque look. It is resistant to staining and colour change.

These properties make E-max a popular choice for anyone wanting a natural result on the front teeth that show when they smile. Depending on the condition of the tooth, it is applied either as a crown or as a veneer.

Crown or veneer?

Both are made from the same material; the difference is how much of the tooth they cover. An E-max veneer is applied only to the front surface and needs very little tooth preparation; it is chosen for aesthetic needs such as colour, minor shape irregularities and closing gaps. An E-max crown covers the whole tooth and, where there is significant tooth loss, a large filling or a history of root canal treatment, provides both protection and appearance.

The timings vary accordingly: an E-max crown is usually planned as 3 days / 4 nights in Istanbul, while an E-max veneer includes a try-in appointment and so is planned as 4 days / 5 nights. Which suits you is determined by the dentist after an examination and X-rays.

E-max Crown

The whole tooth; more extensive preparation

How does it work, step by step?

1

Online consultation (from home)

You share photos of your teeth over WhatsApp. The dentist makes an initial assessment and we send whether a crown or veneer is more suitable, the options and a personalised quote within 24 hours.

2

Day 1 — Preparation and impressions

After an examination and X-rays, the teeth are prepared under local anaesthetic. For a veneer only the front surface is prepared, for a crown a thin layer around the whole tooth; impressions are taken and temporaries are fitted. This appointment takes around 2 hours.

3

Free day

While your restorations are made in the laboratory you have a day without a clinic visit. You can use this time to explore Istanbul.

4

Try-in and bonding

The restorations are tried in first, and colour and fit are reviewed together. For veneers this is planned as a separate appointment. Once you approve them, the aesthetic adjustments are made and the restorations are bonded permanently.

5

Final check-up

Your bite, gum fit and colour are checked one last time and aftercare is explained. After this check-up you are ready to fly home.

Who is it suitable for?

  • People wanting a natural-looking result on their front teeth
  • Those with colour, minor shape or gap concerns (veneers)
  • Those with significant tooth loss or root-treated teeth (crowns)
  • Those who prefer a metal-free restoration

When might it not be suitable?

  • Anyone with untreated decay or gum disease
  • Significant crowding — orthodontic treatment may be needed first
  • Untreated teeth grinding or clenching

Frequently asked questions

How long do I need to stay in Istanbul?
It depends on the application: an E-max crown is planned as 3 days / 4 nights, and an E-max veneer as 4 days / 5 nights. Veneers take a day longer because of the separate try-in appointment. We provide a clear, personalised schedule during your initial consultation.
What is the difference between E-max and zirconia?
Both are metal-free. E-max has slightly higher light transmission, giving a natural result especially for individual teeth in the front. Zirconia, being stronger, stands out for back teeth and bridges. Which is suitable is decided at your examination, based on the position of the tooth.
Will there be sensitivity afterwards?
Some patients notice temporary sensitivity to hot and cold in the first few days. This usually settles on its own within 3–7 days for E-max veneers and within about a week for E-max crowns.
How long does it last?
With regular care, an E-max crown lasts around 10 years and an E-max veneer 8–10 years, often longer. Oral hygiene, grinding and six-monthly check-ups all affect this.
Will the result look natural?
E-max’s high light transmission gives an appearance close to natural enamel, and the colour is matched to your neighbouring teeth. With no metal base, there is no dark line at the gum edge.
